Challenge
Corrosion-Resistant Cover for Hot Clarifiers with High Loads
K+S Kali GmbH, a leading company in fertilizer production, required a durable, low-maintenance solution for the cover of a hot clarifier with a 15-meter diameter. The clarifier was exposed to extreme temperatures (95°C) and corrosive salt solutions, which caused rapid deterioration of previous rubber-lined steel structures. Additionally, stringent requirements for load capacity (350 kg/m²) and slip resistance (R12) had to be met.
Solution
GRP Cover with Vinyl Ester Resin and Innovative Design
Fiberpipe developed a custom GRP cover using vinyl ester resin panel construction. The combination of T-beams and profiled panels ensured maximum stability and corrosion resistance. Inspection hatches and removable segments facilitated easy access and maintenance. The cover was optimized for high load requirements and chemical exposure.
Process
Precise Planning and Collaborative Execution
Fiberpipe conducted a comprehensive analysis of the operational conditions and proposed several design solutions. In close consultation with K+S, the optimal solution was selected. Fiberpipe handled the dismantling of the old cover, manufacturing and installation of the new structure, and coordination of all adjustments. Despite a tight three-week timeline, the project was completed on schedule.
