Challenge
Optimizing Raw Gas Preheating Under Extreme Conditions
The RWE Ibbenbüren coal power plant, operational since 1985, required an efficient solution for reheating clean gas in the flue gas desulfurization system (FGD). The raw gas pipelines needed to withstand high temperatures of up to 160°C while minimizing heat loss. Additionally, the constraints of the existing plant added complexity to planning and implementation.
Solution
GRP Pipes with Chemical Protection Layer and High Temperature Resistance
Fiberpipe designed and delivered a comprehensive piping system made of GRP with a special 2.5 mm chemical protection layer. This system provided maximum resistance to temperature and corrosion. Through precise detail engineering, including 3D piping layout planning and stress analyses, a tailor-made solution was created. All components were prefabricated to significantly reduce installation time.
Process
Precise Planning and On-Time Implementation
In close coordination with RWE and Alstom Power Recovery, the requirements were defined, and the pipeline routing was meticulously planned. Fiberpipe managed the complete engineering process, procurement of components, and turnkey construction of the GRP connection pipelines. Detailed planning allowed for seamless installation within a planned plant shutdown of just 48 hours.
