The framework conditions are tough: for the later pump house, a level was specially raised into the open sea. The cooling water is pumped up from the pump house into the power plant, which is 30 meters above sea level.
A special level was raised into the sea for the pump house: the complex concrete and steel work can begin. The GFRP cooling water supply line is still easy to maneuver despite a diameter of 2.4 meters. Also important when assembling the return line, to the left in the picture.
Precision is required: the cooling water is fed back into the sea via the so-called outfall channel. The pipe manufacturer Fiberpipe trained the 40-strong Turkish assembly team on site in how to use the new material.
Fast assembly: GFRP pipes are lightweight and easy to connect, even with a large diameter. A pipe section for the return line is currently being positioned here.
The last stage: before re-entry into the sea, the return line divides via a Y-piece. In order to shield this critical area from external influences as well as possible, it will later be poured into concrete.
A look inside reveals the dimensions: The rib reinforcements, visible as dark rings, reliably protect the pipe from inside against pressure.
The pump house for the gas-fired combined cycle power plant was completed quickly despite the extreme conditions. From here, the cooling water is pumped about 30 meters up into the power plant in special fiberglass pipes.
The pump house is built: The cooling water supply line made of glass fiber reinforced plastic, which is not yet covered here, is insensitive to sea water and heat.
The auxiliary cooling water is taken from the sea in the pump house and pumped into the cooling circuit via the auxiliary cooling water system DN500. From there it is returned to the sea via the secondary cooling water return line. The auxiliary cooling water, which is also required for this type of power plant, is cleaned in these filters.
Combining thermal processes optimally: Combined gas and steam power plants combine different types of turbines to achieve a particularly high level of efficiency. GFRP is also used in the vacuum systems, as is the case here with a small process container.
Individually manufactured: for sizes like this, each pipe is specially developed to meet the requirements. Hydraulically controlled butterfly valves DN1600 control the volume flow through the pipes.
